RSC Anderlecht has decided to sack head coach Brian Riemer after disappointing results this season. The 45-year-old Danish coach, who has been at the club's helm since December 2022, is to leave after persistent criticism and the recent defeat against Racing Genk.
However, the team's performance was insufficient, which is why it was decided to end the partnership, the club said.
Riemer was originally acquired from Brentford FC, where he was previously active in the Premier League. Under his leadership, Anderlecht reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa Conference League and finished third in the Jupiler Pro League last season, despite shaky performances. In recent months, however, it continued to struggle to produce consistently good results, leading to the sacking.
David Hubert, former player of the club and current U18 coach, will temporarily take charge of the first team while the club searches for a successor to Riemer. Hubert was previously assistant coach at the RSCA Futures and has recently been in charge of the youth team.
Riemer left Neerpede this morning after receiving the news from chairman Wouter Vandenhaute and CEO Sports Jesper Fredberg. The club management had earlier still bet on stability, but finally decided to intervene after persistent boos from supporters.
