Pro League matchday 18: what’s in store for KVM and Cercle?

11 December 2024

Moving on to matchday 18 in the Belgian Pro League, the weekend of 13-15 December has plenty of fascinating encounters. With Club Brugge vs KRC Genk, numbers 2 and 1 come face to face this weekend, but we’re of course most excited for the encounters of KV Mechelen and Cercle Brugge. Here’s what we think might happen on matchday 18.

KV Mechelen vs Antwerp

13/12 8.45 p.m.

Most likely to win: Antwerp

KV Mechelen is still sixth in the rankings, and with a victory, it could actually hop over Antwerp. Unfortunately, we predict the Great Old to win this one by a narrow margin.

Beerschot vs Standard

14/12 4 p.m.

Most likely to win: Standard

Beerschot remains in relegation trouble, week after week. Standard has a great opportunity to gain a few spots. We’re giving this to the visitors from Liège.

OH Leuven vs Charleroi

14/12 6.15 p.m.

Most likely to win: OH Leuven

There’s a lot on the line in this encounter: if it wins, OH Leuven moves ahead of Charleroi. Home advantage will be decisive for an OHL victory.

KV Kortrijk vs Dender

14/12 8.45 p.m.

Most likely to win: KV Kortrijk

KV Kortrijk has been fighting hard to escape the relegation zone. For its part, Dender hasn’t done terrible in its JPL comeback season, but count on KVK to win in front of its home crowd.

Club Brugge vs KRC Genk

15/12 1.30 p.m.

Most likely to win: Club Brugge

It’s the match of the season right here! Though Club Brugge can’t become number 1, we foresee the number 2 to deliver a subtle blow to the current leader. Club for the win!

Union vs Westerlo

15/12 4 p.m.

Most likely to win: Union

Union is just one of many teams vying for a spot in the top 6 this weekend, but so is Westerlo. Consider Union’s home advantage to come into play for a victory here.

STVV vs Anderlecht

15/12 6.30 p.m.

Most likely to win: Anderlecht

STVV has had its fair share of trouble keeping clear of the relegation zone. Anderlecht, meanwhile, is a solid third after 17 games. Win for the visitors from Anderlecht.

KAA Gent vs Cercle Brugge

15/12 7.15 p.m.

Most likely to win: KAA Gent

KAA Gent seems set to defend – if not improve upon – its fifth place. Cercle Brugge needs a win to escape the relegation zone, but our prediction is that the home side will win this one.
