Champions League matchday 8: can Club Brugge reach the knockout rounds?

23 January 2025

The excitement returns to the Europa League with matchday 7 on 21-22-23 January, with epic battles ahead. Two Belgian teams are still in it to win it, and both hail from Brussels: Anderlecht and Union Saint-Gilloise. Do you see them beat their respective opponents? Let’s take a look at the action, and see what we can learn for a smarter prediction!

Inter Milan vs AS Monaco

29/01 9 p.m.

Most likely to win: Inter Milan

At the very least, Inter Milan and AS Monaco will both continue playing in the Champions League. Both will want to avoid the knockout rounds, but Inter will win this, though.

Barcelona vs Atalanta

29/01 9 p.m.

Most likely to win: Barcelona

Barcelona is going straight to the round of 16 after its mini remontada against Benfica. Atalanta will fight for the victory, but we see this one go to the Spanish side on a roll.

Stuttgart vs Paris Saint-Germain

29/01 9 p.m.

Most likely to win: Paris Saint-Germain

Stuttgart and Paris Saint-Germain have similar records so far, but the French team showed its resilience, coming back to win 3-2 against Man City. PSG for the win here!

Manchester City vs Club Brugge

29/01 9 p.m.

Most likely to win: Manchester City

Manchester City had a painful night in Paris on matchday 7. Nothing but a thorough victory against Club Brugge will do. It’s a shame for the Belgian side: victory for Man City.

Juventus vs Benfica

29/01 9 p.m.

Most likely to win: Juventus

Juventus is certain of at least the knockout rounds, while Benfica has to rise above to avoid elimination. It could be tight, but we expect Juventus to keep the victory at home.

Lille OSC vs Feyenoord Rotterdam

29/01 9 p.m.

Most likely to win: Lille OSC

Another matchup between teams with similar profiles and campaigns so far. In cases like this, turn to the home advantage rule, which would mean a victory for the Ligue 1 team here.

Brest vs Real Madrid

29/01 9 p.m.

Most likely to win: Real Madrid

Brest has impressed in this Champions League: it’s even better ranked than Real Madrid. The most plausible scenario is that Real Madrid gets the away win, though.

PSV Eindhoven vs Liverpool

29/01 9 p.m.

Most likely to win: Liverpool

PSV Eindhoven needs a win to book its knockout round ticket. Too bad for the Eredivisie team that it has to play Liverpool, which is likely to beat PSV for a perfect 8 out of 8.
