Who will double their way to darts glory? First round preview of the World Grand Prix

01 October 2025

Next week the World Grand Prix will take place in Leicester, with the unique ‘double in, double out’ format promising excitement from the very first round. Here is a detailed look at the first round.

Monday 06/10 at 19h00

Rob Cross – Wessel Nijman
Most likely winner: Rob Cross
Cross, the former world champion, has regained his form after a difficult period. His high scoring and experience under pressure make him the favorite against Nijman. Nijman is a talented player, especially on home soil, but he will need to be precise from the very first dart in this exciting format.

Martin Schindler – Krzysztof Ratajski
Most likely winner: Martin Schindler
Schindler has shown solid form in recent months, with impressive finishes and a calm mindset. Ratajski, the “Polish Eagle,” is known for his heavy scoring, but Schindler’s rhythm and ability to find doubles quickly could make the difference in this double in, double out match.

Chris Dobey – Cameron Menzies
Most likely winner: Chris Dobey
Dobey is in great form, combining heavy scoring with decisive finishes. Menzies can be unpredictable and pull off a shock, but Dobey’s consistency on the big stage makes him the favorite.

James Wade – Joe Cullen
Most likely winner: James Wade
Wade’s experience in finals and his clinical finishing give him a clear advantage. Cullen can produce moments of brilliance, but he has struggled to maintain consistent form this season, which could be decisive from the first round.

Danny Noppert – Jermaine Wattimena
Most likely winner: Danny Noppert
Noppert’s calm, controlled play and strong finishes under pressure make him difficult to beat. Wattimena can score heavily, but Noppert’s experience in long-format matches gives him the favorite role.

Luke Humphries – Nathan Aspinall
Most likely winner: Luke Humphries
Humphries is in excellent form, with heavy scoring and composed finishes. Aspinall is dangerous when in form, but Humphries’ consistency and recent results place him as the favorite.

Gary Anderson – Raymond van Barneveld
Most likely winner: Gary Anderson
Anderson, with his heavy scoring and ability to capitalize on crucial moments, has the edge over Van Barneveld. The Dutch legend should not be underestimated, but Anderson’s recent form makes him the favorite.

Stephen Bunting – Niko Springer
Most likely winner: Stephen Bunting
Bunting has had a solid season, especially on the European Tour. His ability to hit high checkouts early in a leg is crucial in a double in, double out match, while Springer might struggle to keep up with the pace.

Tuesday 07/10 at 19h00

Damon Heta – Luke Woodhouse
Most likely winner: Damon Heta
Heta combines consistent scoring with precise finishes, giving him an advantage over Woodhouse. Woodhouse can play well, but Heta’s experience on the big stage makes him the favorite.

Ross Smith – Daryl Gurney
Most likely winner: Ross Smith
Smith has shown consistency and handles the pressure of televised matches well. Gurney can produce bursts of brilliant play, but Smith’s steady approach will likely be decisive.

Jonny Clayton – Andrew Gilding
Most likely winner: Jonny Clayton
Clayton’s aggressive scoring and calm finishing make him a formidable opponent. Gilding can fight back, but Clayton’s experience and consistency in majors make him the favorite.

Gerwyn Price – Ryan Searle
Most likely winner: Gerwyn Price
Price’s power and competitive intensity are hard to match. Searle has been steadily improving, but Price’s ability to perform under pressure makes him the clear favorite.

Luke Littler – Gian van Veen
Most likely winner: Luke Littler
Young English talent Littler impresses with his composure and consistent scoring. Van Veen is talented and capable of an upset, but Littler’s momentum and boldness give him the edge.

Michael van Gerwen – Dirk van Duijvenbode
Most likely winner: Michael van Gerwen
Van Gerwen’s power and accuracy under pressure make him a formidable opponent. Van Duijvenbode can score heavily, but MVG’s experience in major televised tournaments is usually decisive.

Peter Wright – Mike De Decker
Most likely winner: Mike De Decker
In a surprising twist, De Decker is favored over Wright after strong performances this season and deep runs in recent majors. De Decker’s precision on doubles and calmness in crucial moments could make the difference, making this one of the most intriguing first-round matches.

Josh Rock – Ryan Joyce
Most likely winner: Josh Rock
Rock is in excellent form, with aggressive scoring and clutch finishes. Joyce can play well, but Rock’s consistency makes him the favorite.
