Union in the Champions League: What are the odds?

Tonight, Union Saint-Gilloise starts its Champions League campaign with a first leg against Slavia Praha in the third qualifying round. Fingers crossed for a favourable result for the Belgians here!

It’s not obvious from Union’s recent seasons finishing among the best teams in the JPL, but the club from Brussels once languished in lower division limbo for many years. All that’s in the past, though: the current reincarnation of the yellow and blue has shown that it’s here to stay, with fascinating football to boot.

The appointment of former Belgian international Sébastien Pocognoli as head coach from the 2024-2025 season onward has awakened anticipation from friends and foes alike. Together with some new faces from the summer mercato, he’ll have the daunting task to keep Union on the forefront of Belgian football.

Thanks to a strong performance and a second place last season, Union made it to the third qualifying round of the Champions League. That’s where it now meets Slavia Praha, from the Czech capital… With a solid away effort tonight at 7 p.m., Union can take an option on a long Champions League run.

Our pronostics?

Slavia has the best chance of winning, in our opinion. Because they are very tough opponents, and the home advantage also plays a role. We are therefore betting on 0-1 or 1-2. Don't forget however, although the odds play against them, Union's boys have already proved their fighting spirit. So a 1-1 draw is also realistic.
