👇 MORE INFO ON THE GAMES 👇
This is still Georgia's first time in the European Championship. And they have done well, because despite losing to Turkey (1-3), Willy Sagnol's team shone with their play.
Georgia had secured their ticket for the competition by beating Luxembourg (2-0) and Greece (TAB) in the play-offs. Their only warm-up match ended in victory over Montenegro (1-3). The Georgians are playing for their all. If they lose, they will be eliminated.
Czechia won the Euro in... 1976. At the last edition of this European Championship, the Czechs put in a marvellous performance under the guidance of a sparkling Patrik Schick.
The team took 2nd place in its group during the qualifiers. Czechia are therefore confident, even if they were logically defeated by Portugal in their first match (1-2). Czechia reached the quarter-finals in 2020. They should not be overlooked.
Georgia showed their desire and came very close to snatching a draw against Turkey, a draw they would have deserved! They know they have no choice against the Czechs. Georgian victory keeps hopes alive! Tip: Georgia to win at 5.00.
Turkey missed out on the last World Cup, losing 3-1 to Portugal in the play-offs. So they have a lot to live up to. But the Turks were successful in the last Nations League and had a fine qualifying campaign for this EURO.
They surprised everyone by finishing top of their group ahead of Croatia and Wales. And the Turks are clearly building on that success with a 3-1 win over Georgia in their opening match. We'll have to see if they can also beat one of the favourites.
Portugal will be doing everything in their power to do better than they did at the 2022 World Cup and forget their quarter-final elimination by Morocco. During qualification, the Portuguese were faultless. And unstoppable, with 36 goals scored and 2 conceded.
That said, the Portuguese also gave a scare in their match against the Czech Republic. They really had their backs against the wall before scoring two lifesaving goals, including one at the money. So the 2016 European Champions are struggling at times.
Both teams showed that they can score goals. Turkey and their young talent were impressive and showed their desire to play ball. Portugal, of course, is Portugal. In short, we could see an unbridled open match with two teams who are already almost sure to qualify! Let's hope it's a goalfest of a game. Tip: Total goals: Over 3.5 with odds of 2.60.
Totally out of sorts at the last World Cup, Belgium also missed out on Euro 2024 by being beaten 0-1 by modest little Slovakia. The Belgians' play was sloppy and the whole team lacked determination.
Hence the result, even if a certain amount of bad luck also prevailed with two goals disallowed by the referee. The Diables now need to get their act together and make sure they don't miss their chance against Romania. A big reaction is therefore expected. It remains to be seen whether that will happen.
Romania have been unconvincing in their preparations. They suffered a setback in Colombia (3-2) and were unable to solve the Bulgarian equation (0-0), as well as the one against Liechtenstein (0-0). That said, these performances made us forget that the Tricolores finished top of their qualifying group ahead of Switzerland.
Romania also showed their determination against Ukraine, who were thought to be favourites but were defeated (3-0). All they need is a point to secure their place in the last eight... So motivation will be key.
Doku must be very upset, but the whole group is behind him, including the coach. He managed as many dribbles in the first match as the whole Slovakia team, and he'll want to redeem himself. Doku to score at 4.33 is looking good!
