Cercle celebrates 125th birthday with Champions Playoff football

Our sponsored JPL team Cercle Bruges, still in the running for the championship title, celebrates its 125th birthday on April 9. A double reason for celebration, so to speak. Here’s an overview of the 10 upcoming match days!

Cercle has had an exceptional 2023-2024 season: it finished 5th with 47 points in 30 games. That stellar performance brings “de Vereniging” to the Champions Playoffs, where it meets the other title hopefuls: Union, Anderlecht, Antwerp, Club Bruges, and Genk. Let’s take a look at the team’s schedule in this 125th birthday season:

Cercle vs Club Bruges (Monday, 1 April, 1.30 p.m.)

The Bruges city derby: what a way to kick off the Champions Playoffs campaign! Can Cercle defeat its city rival this time around? We’ll be rooting for black and green!

Union vs Cercle (Sunday, 7 April, 1.30 p.m.)

Union may be the favorite this season, but a strong performance here could be Cercle’s ticket to the ultimate 125th birthday gift: the Pro League title!

Genk vs Cercle (Saturday, 13 April, 8.45 p.m.)

Genk barely made it to the Champions Playoffs, while Cercle joined the other in a style that’s worthy of a champion. Another victory will bring the boys closer to the ultimate prize!

Cercle vs Antwerp (Sunday, 21 April, 1.30 p.m.)

With Antwerp, Cercle hosts the title defender. The Great Old will know how hard a visit to Jan Breydel can be when it’s up against the solid Cercle squad!

Anderlecht vs Cercle (Wednesday, 24 April, 8.30 p.m.)

Anderlecht has enjoyed a better season than it had in recent years. The Mauves better not underestimate our boys though, though, because they’re on a mission!

Cercle vs Anderlecht (Sunday, 28 April, 4 p.m.)

Just days after the first Champions Playoff, Cercle hosts its Mauve rival for the return leg. Anderlecht will face the full force of the fanbase of “de Vereniging”!

Cercle vs Genk (Saturday, 4 May, 8.45 p.m.)

The return leg of matchday 3 of the Champions Playoffs sees Cercle host Genk. We’ll be counting on another strong performance from our team here!

Antwerp vs Cercle (Sunday, 12 May, 6.30 p.m.)

This will be the final game against the current champion in the 2023-2024 season. With an emphatic victory, Cercle will show that it’s ready to lift the JPL trophy!

Cercle vs Union (Sunday, 19 May, 1.30 p.m.)

A month and a half after the first Champion Playoff leg, Cercle meets Union one last time. We’ll give the favorite for the title a fiery welcome at Jan Breydel!

Club Bruges vs Cercle (Sunday, 26 May, 6.30 p.m.)

Cercle’s Champions Playoffs end where they began: with a final derby against the city rival. One last effort of the season, one last big birthday celebration!
